A little preparation helps
A few small changes make a better photo.
- 1Place the page flat and hold the camera directly above it. Avoid angled pages and curved book bindings.
- 2Use even lighting without shadows or glare. Zoom in afterward to check that beams and accidentals are distinct.
- 3Keep every staff, clef, and barline in the frame. For multiple pages, combine them into a PDF of up to 10 pages.
- 4Review the MIDI after conversion. If you need musical spelling, lyrics, or page layout, use the MusicXML download too.

Can I turn a photo of sheet music into MIDI?
Yes. Upload a clear JPG or PNG image of printed notation. A flat, sharp photo with even lighting gives the recognizer more usable detail than an angled or shadowed picture.
Which file types can I upload?
Upload one PDF, JPG, or PNG file at a time, up to 20 MB. A PDF can contain up to 10 pages. If your phone uses another photo format, export the image as JPG or PNG first.
Can I upload handwritten music or guitar tab?
The current recognizer is designed for printed standard Western notation. Handwriting, tablature, and chord-only charts are not supported.
Can I convert several photographed pages together?
Combine the photos into a single PDF with up to 10 pages, then upload that PDF. Keep each page upright and readable. Batch uploading separate image files is not currently supported.
Can I download the notation as well as MIDI?
Yes. One score purchase includes the available MusicXML, compressed MXL, MIDI, MP3, and printable PDF files. Choose All formats to download them together.
